Creekside 'Trad' Sparkling 2019
Pricing
¥8,800 (incl. tax)
Product description
A premium traditional-method sparkling wine with persistent bubbles, apple, pear, and floral aromas. Elegant and crisp.
The 2019 vintage was a bit of a cooler growing season. For classic, cool climate grapes this brought great intensity, nervy acidity, and a refreshing elegance. Wines from this vintage are quite age-worthy. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit was hand-picked from Queenston Road Vineyard, whole bunch pressed, then fermented separately in stainless steel. The final 50/50 blend was chosen for overall balance and complexity.

The latest TRAD comes from a perfectly cool and balanced Niagara vintage for a Champenoise method bubble (therefore TRAD) at the top of its Creekside game. Intensity is off the charts this time around and the ideal drops of tinctured bitters sweats into the gingery, autolytic and wildly exotic flavours of this sparkling wine. Really tense and nervous blend of chardonnay and pinot noir from the Queenston Mile Vineyard in a Brut level style but it comes across so much drier than that. Reserve to a “T” and should therefore rightly age mystically for five-plus years.

David Lawrason - This chardonnay-pinot noir blend was aged on its lees four years. It pours bright, medium gold, and shows a lifted mature nose of caraway, toasted nuts, apple, lemon, honey and flint. It is light to mid-weight, a touch creamy and sweet-edged with excellent acid backbone. The finish is just a touch pasty. Flavour intensity is excellent.

Megha Jandhyala, S.J.D - This is an engaging vintage-dated sparkling wine, with concentrated notes of honey-glazed croissants, ripe apples and pears, and orange marmalade. The palate is dry, with especially delectable flavours of lemon preserve, supported by tart acids, while the finish is intense and long-lasting. I think this would make a versatile addition to any meal and should pair very well with a variety of foods. Tasted November 2024.

Creekside Estate Winery opened in 1997 in small-town Jordan, Ontario. The Winery is run by a passionate (some say fanatical) group of industry veterans who have decades of experience in their respective fields. The team of self-described cork dorks love what they do, and have fun doing it.
Early on the darlings of the Creekside portfolio were, like the people who created them, a little outside of the mainstream fold; Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah are the signature wines. Creekside has also developed a cult following for its Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon blend and Ontario’s award winning Broken Press Syrah.
Despite being considered viticulturally off-kilter for the region these 2 grapes showed promise and the early successes spurred further investment in the vineyard and cellar.
