Makers Dinner - Nov 25 | Norman Hardie
MAKERS DINNER · NOV 25 · SHIROKANE
An evening with
Norman Hardie.
Seven wines from Prince Edward County and Niagara,
paired with a five-course dinner at Alternative, Shirokane.
Norman Hardie’s vineyards and winery · Prince Edward County, Ontario
Norman Hardie has been making wine in Prince Edward County, Ontario, since his first vintage in 2004, above all Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A former sommelier who learned his craft in Burgundy and around the world, Norm is visiting Japan, and for one night only he will host a makers dinner at Alternative in Shirokane.
Seven of his wines, wild-fermented and made with a light hand, paired with five courses from Alternative’s kitchen.
Hear the story from the winemaker himself, and taste what limestone and a cool lake climate bring to the glass.

The seven wines

Norman Hardie Chardonnay Unfiltered 2022 (Niagara)
Beamsville Bench fruit, wild-fermented: bright citrus, minerality and a long, balanced finish.
Norman Hardie County Chardonnay Singer Vineyard 2023
The first single-vineyard bottling from Singer, the estate’s coolest site by the water: the most Chablis-like wine in the range.
Norman Hardie Cuvée “L” Chardonnay 2022
Only the fifth Cuvée L Chardonnay in 20 years: striking minerality and lemon-lime elegance.
Norman Hardie Skin-Contact Cuvée Orange 2023 (Gewürztraminer)
Potpourri, rosewater and lychee, with beautiful texture and gentle tannin.
Norman Hardie County Pinot Noir 2021
A vintage Norm counts among his best: bright fruit, a steely core and a long finish, “a steel hand in a velvet glove.”
Norman Hardie Cuvée “L” Pinot Noir 2022
County limestone and Niagara clay in one glass; Burgundy lovers have likened it to Chambolle-Musigny.
Norman Hardie Cabernet Franc Cuesta Vineyard 2020 (Niagara)
Possibly the best Cabernet Franc vintage yet: deep red fruit, gravel, firm tannin and bright acidity.
